Corrigan's Variety Inclusive Playground Update

The playground is now finished and an official opening ceremony is expected to be held in March 2019. See here for announcement.

The Bay Push Inc. committee thanks everyone in this very special community of ours to make such a project a reality. The final addition to the playground is an honour board which will acknowledge those people who contribute financially.

Play Equipment

Included are:

Carousal, Swings including a wheelchair swing, Parent and Child swing and sets of extra standard swings, round-about climbing pyramid, rocking horses (3), covered sandpit, the great balance challenge, monster climbing dome, jungle bars, two flying foxes, ball sports, BBQ tables, electric BBQ’s, picnic tables and plenty of covered relaxation spaces.

What’s next?

During the course of the playground project which spans the past five years, much support has been indicated for a kiddies Splashpad.

What is a Splashpad?

According to Wikipedia;

A splash pad or spray pool is a recreation area, often in a public park, for water play that has little or no standing water. This is said to eliminate the need for lifeguards or other supervision, as there is little risk of drowning.

Typically there are ground nozzles that spray water upwards out of the splash pad's raindeck. There may also be other water features such as a rainbow (semicircular pipe shower), or mushroom- or tree-shaped showers. Some splash pads feature movable nozzles similar to those found on fire trucks to allow users to spray others. The showers and ground nozzles are often controlled by a hand activated-motion sensor, to run for limited time.

Typically the water is either freshwater, or recycled and treated water, that is water treated to at least the same level of quality as swimming pool water standards. These splash pads are often surfaced in textured non-slip concrete or in crumb rubber.

The grant funding recommended by Andrew Constance who has indicated his support, requires a DA or a letter of exclusion from a DA be presented from the local council.

Eurobodalla Council in the past, has not been in favour a splashpad at Batehaven believing it may compete with the proposed water park which will form part of the Mackay Park aquatic centre. The Mackay Park water park is proposed with a modest entry fee to partially offset the expense of the aquatic centre.

It is not possible for us to apply for a grant without the permission of council

As it is not possible to apply for a grant without the permission of council, we need to show Council that there is strong community support in favour of the Corrigans Reserve Splashpad.

The proposed water park at the new Mackay Park precinct at the centre of Batemans Bay, will be a great paid entry community resource. It is proposed to be styled on an adventure playground. The water park will feature water slides and a large tipping water bucket.

But on the basis of location, admission price and equipment type, it will not be suitable for or benefit all children, especially those with profound disabilities.

However, the splashpad proposed for installation adjacent to the inclusive Variety Inclusive Playground will be low impact, comprising a water filtration system with only ground based water jets, foot operated water spouts and a rainbow channel. It will feature solar heating to extend the season for its use. There are no pools proposed and a life guard presence will not be necessary. It would be free entry to all.

WE WILL BE IN TOUCH SHORTLY ABOUT WHAT YOU CAN DO TO SHOW SUPPORT FOR THE SPLASHPAD 🙂
